Electricity
The City of Baudette is one of 12-city members of the Northern Municipal Power Agency. NMPA not only supplies power to its member cities but also owns a 30 percent share of the Coyote Station located near Beulah, North Dakota and a load-ratio share of the Minnkota Power Cooperative, Inc. transmission system. Minnkota is the operating agent for NMPA and purchases capacity and energy from the Coyote Station not required by NMPA members.

Energy Efficiency Financial Incentives for Residential and Business Customers
The Next Generation Act of 2007 requires distribution utilities to adopt annual goals to reduce their gross retail energy sales. We are required to have programs in place that will demonstrate a kilowatt-hour savings of 1.5% of kilowatt-hours sold. The overall message is to encourage cooperatives and municipal utilities to take a proactive role in energy efficiency and conservation. In order to achieve the mandates included in this legislation, the City of Baudette has joined the other members of the Minnkota system and hired an energy and conservation consulting firm—Franklin Energy—to aid in the development and implementation of a number of conservation and energy efficiency programs.
On the residential side there is a rebate program for implementing energy savings in the areas of lighting, wash machines, hot water heaters, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and geothermal measures. On the commercial side there is a rebate program for implementing energy savings in the areas of heating, cooling, air conditioning, and lighting. Applications for these programs are available at the City office or at the link below . Please keep in mind that certain criteria and rules for receiving the new rebates must be met. Some of the rebates require prior approval so be sure to review the rebate form prior to starting your project.
In addition, note that there are many incentives relating to weatherization and home energy efficiency through the federal stimulus and the State of Minnesota. Residents are encouraged to go to www.energystar.gov . Information that is specific to Minnesota can be found at www.staywarm.mn.gov .
